If you are like many other residents of off campus housing at TTU, you are planning to head home for Thanksgiving break. Of course, you want to ensure you are prepared to leave your apartment behind for several days. Use the following tips to prepare your student apartment before heading home for Thanksgiving break.
Use up Perishable Food
Start by using up the perishable food before you leave to keep it from spoiling before you return to your apartment. This is especially important if you are renting alone or with roommates who are also heading home. You can avoid wasting food by creating a meal plan and shopping list based on what you already have in your refrigerator.
Lock up Your Valuables
There is a good chance you are going to pack your valuables, but it never hurts to protect any valuables you are leaving behind. You may want to place these items in a lockbox inside your closet. In addition, you may want to lock your bedroom door while you are away.
Treat Your Apartment as Home
You should always treat your apartment as your home when leaving, especially if you are leaving for several days. Start by turning off and unplugging any electronics and appliances that should not be running while you are gone. Next, turn off all the lights and close the curtains. Finally, do a walk-through to ensure your windows and doors are locked before leaving.
